![]() ![]() Your camera has one focusing wheel (at the front edge of the baseboard), which points to Technika III, also the book refers to the luxury version of the III available to special order with red leather covering and bellows. Really the only way to be sure, is to get hold of the serial number.Ĭlick to expand.I have consulted The Linhof Camera Story (published by Linhof itself). I have a IV (serial number checked with Bob Salomon, of HP Marketing in the States), and as Eric has said, has red lines on the front standard. It isnt so easy with the 5x7 Technikas, as they dont seem to have had such a clear evolution of features as the 4x5s. You can find the number for the most Linhof cameras in the accessory shoe. If you go to the Large Format forum and post a query in this thread, Bob Salomon, the now retired wholesale representative for Linhof in the US can probably tell you, based on the serial number of the camera body (not the serial number of the lens), what model and production year it is. To make matters more confusing, the 4x5 Super-Technika did not come with a built-in viewfinderrangefinder like the 6x9 version, but it is still called a Super). Looking at The Linhof Camera Story, the difference between a 6x9 Technika and a 6x9 Super-Technika during the IIIIV era is that a 6x9 Super-Technika has the attached top-mounted rangefinder-viewfinder with the viewfinder masks like the camera listed here on eBay, and if the book is telling the whole story, the III did not come in a Super version, only the IV. It is possible that it is a late version of a 6x9 III, but the Cameraquest page is mostly about the 4x5 cameras, not the 6x9. The photos also show a groundglass back, so you could use regular filmholders-nominal 2x3 or 6.5x9cm European style-and you can use the camera movements with rollfilm. The later lever wind backs dont have this problem, because they meter the actual film travel, while the older ones presume a certain thickness for the film and paper backing. ![]()
